MRCGP Simulated Consultation Assessment (SCA)

MRCGP SCA practice cases

For GP trainees preparing for the MRCGP Simulated Consultation Assessment. Every station comes with a patient script for your partner to play and a marking sheet for a second colleague, so you can rehearse real consultations rather than read about them.

The exam at a glance

  • 12 simulated consultations, each 12 minutes, with a 3-minute reading period before each case.
  • Sat remotely through an online platform, usually from a GP surgery. Consultations are recorded, and each case is marked by a different examiner.
  • Marked in three domains: data gathering and diagnosis; clinical management and medical complexity; relating to others.
  • Physical examination is not assessed in the SCA.

Run by the Royal College of General Practitioners.

How to practise for it here

166 original stations, one for every key concept in the family medicine curriculum, each with a candidate sheet, patient script, examiner script and calibrated marking sheet.

  • Choose MRCGP SCA when you sign up, and the station timer runs 3 minutes reading, then a 12-minute consultation.
  • Where a station includes a physical examination step, say what you would examine and why, then move on, as you would in the SCA.
  • Practise on video call: candidate, patient and examiner each open the station on their own device.
